I was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, as the daughter of Indian immigrants, and grew up there and in Oklahoma and the Seattle suburbs. I began my journalism career as a technology reporter at the Wall Street Journal; after nine years at the Journal, I spent two years launching, editing and writing for the business section of the New Yorker’s website. Since then, my writing has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Harper’sThe New Republic, Businessweek, Fortune, and elsewhere. I am a Wired contributor and can sometimes be found working as a story editor at the New York Times Magazine. I have also edited for the website of the Atlantic and for the nonprofit Fuller Project, and have worked as a staff writer for the California Sunday Magazine.
